The conference will be led by Thomas Misslin, a PhD student at Paris-Dauphine-PSL and project-expert at emlyon business school. His research focuses on learning from mistakes in organizations, and his publications explore leadership, collective capabilities in extreme situations, and team performance development.
 
Extracting reliable and actionable knowledge from team experiences has become an essential collective skill in today’s increasingly dynamic, complex, and uncertain professional environment. This skill is developed and strengthened through “hot” after-action reviews (AARs), a specific form of immediate, collaborative situation analysis. This work summarizes the challenges, methods, and scientific foundations of this approach, used notably by elite military and police units (RAID, GIGN…) and civil security organizations (Paris Fire Brigade). Its goal is to make this method accessible and help develop collective, reflective learning that continuously enhances our skills through experience.

The research chair “Climate Risk and Property & Casualty Insurance” co-created by Groupama Rhône-Alpes Auvergne and emlyon business school, held its second scientific seminar on December 9. The event brought together researchers, insurers, financial stakeholders, and professionals exposed to climate risk. The goal? To share concrete findings and help inform organizations’ strategic decisions in the face of increasingly severe extreme climate risks.

The difference between a Bachelor and a Licence lies mainly in their academic recognition, educational focus, and career orientation.

A Licence is an academic degree awarded by French universities. It is a state-recognized national degree completed in three years after the baccalaureate (Bac+3) and aligned with the European LMD system (Licence–Master–Doctorate). The Licence focuses on theoretical and academic knowledge and is primarily designed to prepare students for further university studies, especially a Master’s degree.

A Bachelor degree, on the other hand, is generally awarded by business schools, management schools, or engineering institutions. While it is also a three-year academic degree (Bac+3), the Bachelor is typically more vocational and professionally oriented. It emphasizes practical skills, internships, project-based learning, and international exposure, making it well suited for rapid entry into the job market, while still allowing progression to a Master’s program.
