Health, Diversity and Inclusion

Health and well-being

As part of its commitment to social issues, emlyon business school implements a comprehensive system dedicated to health and well-being. With the support of a medical-social team, the School provides a psychological support and counseling service, a system to combat discrimination and gender-based and sexual violence, and participatory health prevention and promotion actions that punctuate the academic year.

Since 2016, emlyon has developed a health and well-being offering for students: the Health and well-being Center by APICIL. It supported by a partnership with APICIL company and aims to provide free prevention, health promotion, and care (through consultations) to our students and staff while respecting confidentiality. Available on both French campuses, the service brings together a multidisciplinary team consisting of:

  • A team of nurses for all information related to physical and/or mental health, as well as first aid, vaccination, or emergency care.

  • A team of psychologists for all students who have doubts, questions, or who encounter difficulties during their studies, this listening and support service

  • A disability advisor and a prevention doctor for the development and monitoring of Accommodation Plans for Students with Disabilities

  • A social worker

In addition to the psychologist, two helplines are made available free of charge and confidentially:

  • A confidential psychological support and counseling line open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day

  • A night helpline "Nightline", staffed by students, which is confidential and anonymous.

  • Prevention and promotion activities related to health topics are offered throughout the academic year. Resources, workshops, conferences, and discussion groups co-facilitated with health partners are organized, primarily on addictions, sexuality, and disability.

Diversity

The School's commitment to a more inclusive and responsible society is expressed at all levels of its operations. It is reflected in its stance in favor of gender equality, the fight against all forms of violence and discrimination, as well as the inclusion of LGBT+ people.

Inclusion - emlyon business school

To continue the School's development, emlyon has acquired new skills and strengthened the place of women within its management team. In 2024, the proportion of women in governance bodies was as follows:

  • The Executive Committee is composed of 40% women (4 women / 10 members)

  • The Supervisory Board is composed of 41% (5 women / 12 members)

With 64% of staff being female across all campuses, and 66% in France, promoting gender equality is one of the major focuses of our social policy. Beyond the emlyon Charter for professional gender equality, a Gender Equality Agreement and inclusion policy was concluded in December 2018, formalizing actions taken at the group level to proactively encourage women to request promotions and mobility opportunities within our organization.

Gender Equality Index

The efforts made by emlyon for professional equality between women and men are also measured via the Gender Equality Index, which allows companies to evaluate pay differences within their structure and assign them a score out of 100. Here is the result for emlyon, calculated from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024: 90 Points out of 100 (compared to 89 in 2023).

  • 5 criteria are taken into account in the assessment of inequalities between women and men in companies:

  • Pay gap between women and men - Score obtained: 35/40

  • Gap in the rate of pay increases between women and men - Score obtained: 20/20

  • Gap in the rate of promotions between women and men - Score obtained: 15/15

  • Percentage of employees who received a raise in the year following their return from maternity leave - Score obtained: 15/15

  • Number of women among the 10 highest remunerations - Score obtained: 5/10

emlyon has strengthened its commitment against discrimination and gender-based and sexual violence (GBSV) by deploying an ambitious awareness and training program since October 2020 to provide everyone with the tools to best support students and staff who may find themselves in these situations.

This system, set up with the help of experts on the subject (Safe Campus and L'égalité à la page), is divided into several actions areas:

  • The formalization of a specific reporting and support protocol for emlyon, with the mobilization of a cell of internal referents (trusted persons to whom concerned students or staff can turn).

  • The launch of the online reporting platform "speakup" which allows any concerned person to report acts of discrimination or gender-based, sexual, homophobic, racial, or other violence. The platform, hosted on external servers to ensure maximum confidentiality, is accessible 24/7 and anonymously.

  • The organization of conferences, training modules, and awareness campaigns for staff (and at the highest management level of the School), but also for students (particularly for student association offices) to acquire the psychological and legal skills that will enable them to know how to react to a case of violence, support and protect the people concerned.

  • The support of a helpline and support unit. Its mission is to receive and listen in complete confidentiality to victims or witnesses of discrimination or gender-based and sexual violence, assist them in reporting the facts, propose appropriate protection and support measures, and report incidents to disciplinary bodies while raising awareness of these issues within the student community. It is composed of people from the Health and Well-being Center, the Social and Environmental Engagement Department, the Human Resources Department, and the legal department.

Since signing the LGBT+ Commitment Charter for Higher Education, developed by the association L'Autre Cercle and drafted in partnership with Caélif and FAGE with the support of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Student Observatory for Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Higher Education, emlyon has deployed an action plan for prevention, awareness, and the fight against LGBTphobia, which illustrates its desire to promote inclusion and diversity. This initiative aims to provide a caring and secure working and studying environment for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Structured around four pillars , the School commits to:

  • Create an inclusive working and study environment for LGBT+ people

  • Ensure equality of rights and treatment regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity

  • Support victims of discriminatory comments or acts and prevent and sanction any discriminatory comments or attitudes

  • Measure progress and share best practices to evolve the professional environment and study framework

Visit our page dedicated to the student disability program

Initiated by emlyon business school in 2019, the disability center supports students with disabilities throughout their journey by offering adapted conditions, working with various disability stakeholders, and deploying awareness campaigns for our entire community.

The Disability Center

The program is open to students with disabilities or suffering from an chronic health condition. It addresses all disability situations, whether temporary, lasting, or permanent. The disability center coordinates the personalized educational support assistance required, study accommodations, and examination arrangements in connection with educational services.

The center also establishes relationships with companies and associations, all key players in the field of disability, with the aim of better welcoming people with disabilities and enabling the adaptation of their education and pathways, but also raising awareness among the entire emlyon community about disability issues.

Attached to the human resources department, a disability advisor is also present for staff members.
