To support the development of business strategies compatible with planetary boundaries, emlyon business school has established a new institute: the Alternative Futures Institute.
The creation of the Alternative Futures Institute fully aligns with the school's mission: "to educate enlightened leaders capable of transforming organizations for a more just, united, and environmentally respectful society."
This institute serves as a showcase for all of emlyon's initiatives aimed at structurally transforming organizations in light of the question of planetary habitability.
emlyon founded the Alternative Futures Institute to facilitate an ongoing dialogue among researchers, business leaders, and public decision-makers, with the goal of developing robust strategies that align with planetary limits.
The institute is supported by the emlyon - Carbone 4 Chair for Teaching and Research on "Strategy in the Anthropocene," which develops strategic frameworks for reflection and action that are resilient against planetary boundaries.
Human societies have never been as technically powerful nor as vulnerable to climate disruptions, biodiversity loss, resource depletion, and the social instabilities that this power has caused. We now know that our survival depends on fully integrating the Earth system into decision-making processes and organizational activities.
