The MSc in Management of Energy Transitions is a two-year program based in Paris. Accredited by the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles, it trains experts to lead energy transformations in a sustainable and innovative context. Program
The MSc in Management of Energy Transitions in Paris prepares future leaders to drive the global energy transitions. You'll gain technical, geopolitical, and business skills to manage complex international projects and lead change. With field missions, courses in Shanghai, and internships in top companies, you'll be ready to tackle global energy challenges and make a lasting impact.
Year 1
This program begins by exploring the full spectrum of energy solutions - from wind and solar to nuclear, fossil fuels and hydrogen technologies - giving you a thorough understanding of their technical principles, challenges, and opportunities. You'll dive deep into crucial aspects of the energy transition, including for instance cutting-edge battery storage solutions, while mastering the economics of electricity and gas markets and analysing different energy scenarios.

ENERGY WEEK - co-created with students
The Paris Energy Week is a unique event co-organised with other top French universities that offer Energy-Related MScs in other disciplines (typically engineering and political science) and think tanks. It consists of a two-day conference, followed by a two-day student challenge on energy and AI and will be attended by international participants from the other MSc.
The Semester will also include a report developed by the students with support from a think tank.
January to March
In your second semester, delve into the strategic and practical aspects of energy transition management. Combining entrepreneurial innovation with systemic thinking, this term prepares you for leadership roles in the evolving energy sector. You will master climate tech entrepreneurship and innovative business models while developing a sustainable approach to complex organizational challenges. The semester also provides key insights into international energy politics and climate change dynamics, helping you understand how global trends influence business decisions.
The master degree in energy management provides essential risk management skills, covering energy pricing and natural disaster assessment, while integrating circular economy principles. What sets this semester apart is its holistic approach, blending practical business skills with a deep understanding of societal, economic, and ecological impacts. Through case studies, field missions, and interactive learning, you’ll gain the expertise to drive sustainable innovation in the energy sector.

Internship or entrepreneurship project
March to August
From March to August, students will be free to choose between following a 4-month internship, or conduct an entrepreneurial project. This is a great opportunity to test academic knowledge and acquire.
Year 2
The first period of year 2 sharpens your strategic expertise, focusing on practical solutions for energy transition challenges. You'll lear to design and implement carbon strategies through hands-on projects with industry partners, mastering key decarbonization tools like the GHG Protocol, CDP framework, and Science-Based Targets initiatives (SBTi).
The semester strenghthens your professional toolkit in strategic governance, project financing, and industrialization challenges, preparing you to lead major energy projects. What sets term apart is its emphasis on real-world application, from managing stakeholder ecosystems to mastering project financing models for renewable energy.

This professional mission will last between 4 to 6 months and can take the form of an internship, a VIE (international mission), or an entrepreneurial project. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your academic knowledge in a real-world context, gaining valuable experience in your chosen field. Whether you're seeking employment or launching your own business, the school provides all the support and resources necessary to help you succeed in finding the right path for your career.
Master's Thesis
The Master's Thesis is an analytical work on a topic related to the industry and to the professional experience gained during your internship. This is a great opportunity for you to research a subject which is not only of particular interest, but which has the potential to contribute powerfully to your personal and professional development.
In-Company projects
The in-company project, a key component of the program, provides you with valuable hands-on experience before starting your internship or first job. This project involves a group of students collaborating on a real-world business or management issue presented by a company. The challenge could also focus on developing new business initiatives and analyzing the market to shape future strategies and directions.

Are you eligible?
Students holding one of the following degrees can apply for the MSc in Management of Energy Transitions:
- Admission in Year 1: 3-year Bachelor's degree
- Admission in Year 2:
- 4-year Bachelor's degree or a Master's degree
- A strong and practical background in the energy field
You can apply while being enrolled in the last year of the degree that makes you eligible for this program.
You may be re-directed yo year 1 if you apply to year 2, but we find that you do not have the sufficient experience or knowledge in the field.

Applications for the 2026-2027 academic year are open from early October 2025 and will close in July 2026.
Application deadline: emlyon business school may close applications earlier than July 2026, if all the seats in the class are filled, as it happens every year for many of our Master of Science programs. Consequently, we do advise students to apply as early as possible to ensure they secure a seat in the program and maximize their chances!
Admission Process
Mandatory documents (all the documents provided need to be in English or French (except passport and identity card):
- A resume/ CV in English
- A copy of an official and valid identity card or passport
- A certified copy of all degrees obtained in a higher education institution (in English or French)
- A proof of enrolment certificate for applicants currently enrolled in higher education
- A certified copy of your transcripts from the first year of your undergraduate education until now
Optional documents:
- An official management aptitude test score: GMAT, GMAT online, GRE, TAGE MAGE, CAT
- An English proficiency test: TOEFL, iBT, TOIEC, IELTS, Cambridge, Duolingo
Recommendation and motivation letters while optional are highly encouraged by program directors
We kindly remin you that:
- GMAT and GRE tests are valid for 5 years
- TAGE MAGE tests are valid for 2 years
- CAT tests are valid for 1 year
- English tests are valid for 2 years
Expected english level
A good level of English is paramount to succeed in the program. We recommend that students apply only if they have a level of English equivalent to the C1 level.
C1 corresponds to a level of experienced user (autonomous level). This means that you can understand long, demanding texts and grasp implicit meanings. Express yourself spontaneously and fluently without much searching for words.
emlyon business school introduced a new tool in the selection process which is in line with today's digital landscape and the practices of major international companies in their search for new talents.
Once your online application file completed, you will be asked to go through some digital tests including cognitive tests and professional role-playing linked with the program you're applying for and the emlyon business school's early maker spirit.
To take these digital tests that you will realize alone, we recommend you to adopt a professional posture and to be in a quiet place. These tests will last about 1 hour and a half. The digital tests will require a computer and a stable wifi connection.
Admission statistics
The global acceptance rate for Masters of Science and Specialized Programs for the 2024 intake was 48,31% (admitted students on applicants rate).
Application fee
The application fee for the 2025 intake is set at €120, payable directly by credit card through the online application system.
- Students with a French CROUS grant are exempted of the application fee if they provide the final notice of allocation of this grant for the current academic year.

The admissions board will review your application and your digital tests. You will receive an email as soon as possible to inform you that your results are available on your makersboard.

You will have 10 calendar days after your admission results to complete the enrollment form on your makersboard and pay the non-refundable tuition deposit of €4,500.

Merit-based awarded for strong academic profiles:
10% scholarship for GMAT 700+ / GMAT Focus 645+ / GRE or Tage Mage equivalent

Test scores can be submitted after admission, within a set deadline.
