Level up - Apprenticeship Supervisor
Programme overview
Being an apprenticeship supervisor is not just about passing on know-how or overseeing an apprentice’s work. It is also about creating the right conditions for them to learn, progress and gradually become more autonomous.
The Level Up programme is based on a simple observation: we often already know the best practices for management and support. Yet there can sometimes be a gap between knowing what should be done and actually putting it into practice on a daily basis when working with apprentices.
This programme revisits established practices from a different perspective, helping participants become more aware of what is really at stake in workplace situations.
Through e-learning, case studies, peer discussions and conferences, the programme gives participants the opportunity to step back and reflect on their practices, question their habits, compare different approaches and identify practical adjustments they can make when supporting their apprentice and, more broadly, younger generations.
The Level Up programme supports apprenticeship supervisors, both current and future, in the key aspects of their role: building an effective learning relationship with young colleagues, handling potentially sensitive situations, organising work and developing autonomy, using feedback as a driver for progress, and supporting changes in professional practices.
Because knowing what constitutes good practice is not always enough: the challenge is to be able to apply it at the right time, in the right situation, and turn it into a professional reflex.

- A programme that connects learning with real-world work, turning insights from the e-learning modules into practices that can be applied in the workplace.
- A peer-based approach, with stable groups of 5 to 7 apprenticeship supervisors, encouraging discussion, the exchange of perspectives and psychological safety.
- Realistic situations with no single right answer, enabling participants to reflect on their practices and explore the trade-offs apprenticeship supervisors face in real-life situations.
- A shift from reflection to action, with practical applications that can be directly transferred to the relationship with the apprentice.
Learning methods
The programme combines e-learning, case studies, analysis of professional situations, peer discussions, conferences, mentoring and practical application.
The live sessions are not designed as additional classes. Instead, they provide an opportunity to discuss workplace situations, compare perspectives, draw on concepts introduced in the e-learning modules and develop practical responses.
The case studies are deliberately realistic and open-ended. They enable participants to reflect on their practices around common tensions, including performance versus learning, autonomy versus control, and balancing support with high expectations when working with young employees or apprentices.
Assessment methods
Assessment is primarily based on the analysis of professional situations and self-assessment, complemented by discussions with the mentor.
It is designed to assess the apprenticeship supervisor’s ability to analyse a situation, reflect on their own practices and identify concrete actions that foster the apprentice’s learning, development and autonomy.
The assessment is qualitative and uses the following scale: Not acquired / In progress / Acquired / Mastered.
This assessment also enables participants to apply the skills developed throughout the programme to a complex apprenticeship supervision situation.
Admission requirements
Applicants must currently be apprenticeship supervisors or be expected to take on this role.
Teaching team
The programme is led by mentor-facilitators whose approach focuses on guidance and reflection rather than top-down knowledge transfer.
Mentors help participants articulate their reasoning, question situations, identify blind spots and make connections between the concepts covered in the e-learning modules and the situations they encounter in the workplace.
