The MSc in International Hospitality Management is a two-year program designed for students who want to build an international career in the hospitality industry.

Delivered jointly by emlyon business school and Institut Lyfe, two top institutions in business and hospitality education, the program combines academic depth with real-world immersion. You’ll study on two campuses, work on live industry projects, travel to key hospitality hubs in Europe, and gain hands-on experience through internships. 

With two tailored entry tracks, Business Major for hospitality graduates, and Hospitality Major for students from other fields, the first year adapts to your background to help you build solid foundations. From there, all students come together to deepen their expertise in areas like innovation management, hospitality leadership, finance & hospitality business, while engaging with international companies and industry experts.

Program

As a student of the MSc in International Hospitality Management you will be studying at two top European business schools with global recognition for excellence.

The hospitality courses and management courses have been co-designed by experts at Institut Lyfe and emlyon business school, enabling you to become an hospitality expert.

Year 1

October to March

In the first semester, the program adapts to your academic background through two tailored learning paths designed to build strong foundational skills:

  • Business Major Path (for students with a background in hospitality, tourism, or events): You will strengthen your business acumen through courses in Strategic HRM, Team & Leadership, Marketing in a Digital Age, Negotiation & Sales, and Accounting & Finance, all applied to the hospitality context.
     
  • Hospitality Major Path (for students from other fields such as business, law, humanities, or engineering): You will be immersed in the fundamentals of hospitality through courses like Introduction to the Hospitality Industry, Hotel Services & Operations Management, F&B Management, Hospitality Marketing, Consumer Behavior, and Financial Analysis (Revenue Management).

This initial semester sets the stage for deeper exploration and cross-disciplinary collaboration in Semester 2. 

January to March

The entire cohort comes together for a semester focused on applied learning, cross-campus collaboration, and industry immersion. Courses are delivered across both emlyon business school and Institut Lyfe campuses and include:

  • New Trends in Hospitality
  • Entrepreneurship in Hospitality
  • Project Management
  • Hospitality Leadership Learning Trip with companies visits in Lyon & Paris
  • Capstone Project: a semester-long team challenge involving concept creation, design, marketing, and financial planning
  • Career Coaching workshops to develop job search strategies and prepare for internships

This hands-on period is reinforced by real-world exposure and guidance from industry professionals.

April to August

You will complete a 4-month mandatory internship, giving you the opportunity to apply your skills in a professional setting.

Typical internship roles include: 

  • Hospitality Manager (Rooms Division, F&B, Sales, Revenue Management)
  • Support Manager (Marketing, Project Management, IT)

This experience helps build your resume, deepen your understanding of hospitality operations, and clarify your future career path.

Year 2

September to December

During this semester, you will expand your expertise through four integrated modules*:

  • Talent & Operations
    Intercultural Management, Lean Operations, Emerging Technologies & AI in Hospitality, and CSR in global business environments.
  • Customer Focus
    Explore service quality, luxury management, and customer experience design through advanced tools such as ethnographic research and data analysis.
  • Design & Innovation
    Deep dive into service design, innovation strategy, and brand development.
    → Capstone Project Phase 1: Hotel Concept Development & Brand Design.
  • Professional Leadership & Development #1
    A learning trip to London where you’ll explore diverse hospitality models and meet with senior professionals from leading hotel brands.

This semester positions you for strategic roles in global hospitality by addressing key transformation and leadership themes:

  • Strategic Business
    Finance, Business Models, Strategic Leadership, and Prospective Thinking
    → Capstone Project Phase 2: Development Strategies & Costing
     
  • International Business Models – Global Seminar*
    Includes a series of advanced courses such as Consulting Techniques, Integrated Resorts Management, MICE Management, and an international period (previous cohorts have travelled to global hospitality hubs such as Shanghai and Las Vegas; the destination for 2026 is yet to be confirmed)
     
  • Professional Leadership & Development #2
    ESG Governance in Hospitality, Emotional Labor, Career Coaching, and Research Methods workshops.

April to September 

Conclude your journey with a 4- to 6-month mandatory internship, giving you the opportunity to apply your learning in a real-world context. You'll take on professional responsibilities in line with your career goals whether in hospitality & hotel management, consulting, innovation, or support functions (marketing, HR, project development…).

This final phase is also the foundation for your Professional Thesis, a strategic analysis based on your internship experience. It helps consolidate your industry knowledge while sharpening your ability to reflect, analyze, and deliver insights valued by employers. 

The MSc in International Hospitality Management is recognized at level 7 on the French National Register of Professional Certifications (RNCP). This certification is issued by the Institut LYFE and has been officially registered with France Compétences under the number RNCP39248, effective from June 27, 2024.

In simpler terms, it means that completing this program will earn you a professional certification in hotel and restaurant management, recognized at a high level in France.

Assessment methods

  • Assessment methods may include case studies, presentations, mock exercises, tests, etc.
  • The graduation rate for students of the MSc in International Hospitality Management for the 2021-2022 academic year is 93% (100% of students who the exam have graduated).

Admission

Are you eligible ? 

Students holding at minimum one of the following degrees can apply to the MSc in International Hospitality Management: 

  • Admission in Year 1: 3-year Bachelor's degree
  • Admission in Year 2:  4-year Bachelor's degree or a Master's degree with a strong background in hospitality field 

You can apply while being enrolled in the last year of the degree that makes you eligible for this program.

Applications for the 2026-2027 academic year are open from October 2025 (subject to availability).

Application deadline: emlyon business school may close applications earlier, if all the seats in the class are filled, as it happens every year for many of our Master of Science programs. Consequently, we do advise students to apply as early as possible to ensure they secure a seat in the program and maximize their chances!

Mandatory documents - all the documents provided need to be in English or French (except passport and identity card)

  • A resume / CV in English
  • A copy of an official and valid identity card or passport
  • A certified copy of all degrees obtained in a higher education institution (in English or French)
  • A proof of enrolment certificate for applicants currently enrolled in higher education
  • A certified copy of your transcripts from the first year of your undergraduate education until now

  • An official management aptitude test score: GMAT, GMAT online, GRE, TAGE MAGE, CAT
  • An English proficiency test: TOEFL iBT, TOEIC, IELTS, Cambridge

Expected english level

A good level of English is paramount to succeed in the program. 

We recommend that students apply only if they have a level of English equivalent to the C1 level. C1 corresponds to a level of experienced user (autonomous level). This means that you can understand long, demanding texts and grasp implicit meanings. Express yourself spontaneously and fluently without much searching for words.

Application fee

The application fee for the 2026 intake is set at €120, payable directly by credit card through the online application system.

  • Studends with a French CROUS grant are exempted from paying the application fee if they provide the final notice of allocation of this grant for the current academic year.
     
  • High Level Athletes are also exempted from paying the application fee if they provide a sport resume validated by the director of the Sports department at emlyon business school. If this is your case, please contact Mr Mickaël ROMEZY: romezy@em-lyon.com.

emlyon business school uses a selection process which is in line with today's digital landscape and the practices of major international companies in their search for new talents.
Once your online application file is completed, you will be asked to go through the digital tests. Some key information:

  • 1:30 hours long test
  • To be done on a computer with a working webcam and a stable wifi connection
  • Test includes cognitive exercices, motivation questions and professional role-play in a company setting
  • Take the test alone in a quiet environment
  • Test can only be taken once

How to best prepare for our digital test

The admissions board will review your application and your digital tests. You will receive an email as soon as possible to inform you that your results are available on your makersboard.

To complete your enrollment and secure your place in the program, you will have 10 calendar days after your admission results to sign the enrollment form on your makersboard and pay the non-refundable tuition deposit of €4,500.

The global acceptance rate for Masters of Science and Specialized Programs for the 2024 intake was 48.31% (admitted students on applicants rate).

The tuition fees over two years breaks down as follows:

  • 1st year (Y1): €11,900
  • 2nd year (Y2): €20,000

1-year course (entry in Y2): €26,900

    Open to all admitted candidates, regardless of their financial background. This scholarship considers a combination of factors such as academic excellence, diversity, and motivation. Applicants must submit the scholarship request form as part of their application file.
     
  • Excellence Scholarship
    Merit-based awarded for strong academic profiles:
    10% scholarship for GMAT 700+ / GMAT Focus 645+ / GRE or Tage Mage equivalent
    5% scholarship for GMAT 650+ / GMAT Focus 595+ / GRE or Tage Mage equivalent
    Test scores can be submitted after admission, within a set deadline.
     
  • Early Bird Scholarship
    A 10% tuition reduction for candidates who apply during the first application session.

You will study across campuses: first term in Lyon (emlyon business school and Institut Lyfe), second term in Paris, and third term in Paris and internationally at a partner university.
