emlyon's advances towards social inclusion in 2024

  • Press releases

In conjunction with the release of its Engagement report, emlyon business school announces several significant advancements in social inclusion and equal opportunity. Since adopting its status as a Mission-driven company in 2021, the school has continued to develop tangible actions to open its outstanding programs to students from all backgrounds and support their success.

A sustained effort to remove financial barriers to education access

emlyon continuously strengthens its social policy and goes well beyond regulatory obligations. Financial aid, personalized accompaniment, orientation, and employment support systems: the 2024 Engagement report highlights a range of actions implemented to broaden access to its programs and support students throughout their journey.

Key highlights of this commitment include:

  • Support for scholarship students is central. In the 2023-2024 academic year, 20% of students receive a CROUS scholarship.
  • Exempting scholarship students at level 7 from tuition fees within the Master in Management Program, and offering a decreasing scale down to level 0 bis, emlyon has expanded this system to students in its Global BBA and BSc programs.
  • Furthermore, emlyon has partnered with the INFINITE fund, providing students with zero-interest loans of up to €45,000, complementing existing aid. The program is expected to expand over the coming years.
  • The emlyon Foundation has doubled the funds raised, significantly increasing the number of scholarships awarded, both to students in very precarious financial circumstances and to those facing life emergencies.
  • Simultaneously, 137 students benefited from the “TrEMplin” program in 2024, a comprehensive package including mentorship, administrative support, coaching, and student life monitoring, up by 61% since 2022.

A broader strategy of access rooted in local territories

Beyond financial support, emlyon develops structural programs targeting groups distant from higher education:

  • Every year, 1,000 middle and high school students from rural areas or REP (priority education networks) are supported through Cordées de la Réussite;
  • The “la toile” digital qualification program, allowing individuals distanced from employment to receive free training to re-engage in social and economic life, has already trained 400 learners with 82% positive outcomes.

A recognized engagement integrated into the transformation strategy

Opening the school to all talents is part of emlyon's overarching "social and environmental engagement" goal, integrated as an essential quality expected from emlyon students and graduates in the strategic plan "Resonances 2028".

In an era when planetary habitability poses a major challenge, all emlyon students are educated about planetary boundaries and acquire skills to tackle major social and environmental issues, including natural resource scarcity, biodiversity, climate change, and inequalities.

With 90% of courses analyzed according to the SDGs Inside methodology (a framework of 34 CSR competencies created by the school's professors to situate each teaching in relation to the 17 SDGs), the school now stands as a reference actor for more just, responsible higher education open to all paths.

Social and environmental engagement is a major pillar that irrigates our strategy, all our activities, and mobilizes the entire emlyon community. The 2024 Engagement report testifies to how we translate our commitments into concrete, measurable, and sustainable actions. Of course, progress margins exist, which is why our efforts will continue with an ambitious goal of investing 9 million euros in social and environmental engagement initiatives by 2028
